A message from the president of EPTA Sweden:

Stockholm, 7th January 2012

Dear colleagues and EPTA members,

First I want to congratulate the Swiss board for a well-organized and interesting conference in Lucerne. The idea to bring up a discussion of the present situation of teaching and playing the piano in the 21st century is certainly important. In the Swedish board we are now working intensely to offer you all an interesting and stimulating conference in Stockholm. Our aims as EPTA-members must be to preserve and develop piano playing in a global perspective but also to protect a platform for colleagues to discuss and present new ideas. At the conference in Stockholm we will gather around all important pianistic and pedagogic questions but also get the opportunity to relax and enjoy music.

The theme of the 2012 conference in Stockholm will act as a continuation of the Swiss and the conference has the following title:

Worldwide Visions and Traditions – pedagogical, musical, social and technological conditions for playing the piano in a global perspective

About the conference:
- We are working hard to keep all costs for participating in the conference at the lowest possible level and will present the conference fee on 1st March when we open for registration.
- One lecturer or president from each EPTA-country will participate without congress fee.
- Discounted hotel rates in the range of 30-150 Euros will be available for all participants.
- Send your proposal for a lecture or lecture-recital to epta2012@sppf.net before 1st March. Please keep the theme of the conference in mind and include a brief summary of your lecture. Each presentation should be held in English and the time should be no more than 30 min. The committee of EPTA Sweden reserves the right to choose among the submissions  and the program will be presented by the end of April.

The program will include lectures and recitals as well as the following features:
- Paul Roberts (pianist, pedagogue and author, situated at The Guildhall School in London) will have a master class and a lecture.
- Mayron Tsong (professor at The Maryland University, Washington DC)  will lecture about American views of teaching and playing the piano in 2012.
- Representatives from The China Conservatory and from The Japanese Piano Teacher Association at the conference will present the situation in their respective countries.
- We will introduce workshops in smaller groups which will develop in to debates about music education, politics and art.
-The last evening The City of Stockholm has invited the conference for a buffet and guiding in the famous City Hall of Stockholm, the venue where the Nobel Prize dinner is held.

I wish You a happy 2012 and warmly welcome you all to Stockholm 27-30 September 2012.

Stefan Bojsten,
President EPTA Sweden
